Day 14 God is our Friend
Day 14: God is our Friend
One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. - Proverbs 18:24
So then, we must cling in faith to all we know to be true. For we have a magnificent King-Priest, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who rose into the heavenly realm for us, and now sympathizes with us in our frailty. He understands humanity, for as a Man, our magnificent King-Priest was tempted in every way just as we are, and conquered sin. So now we come freely and boldly to where love is enthroned, to receive mercy’s kiss and discover the grace we urgently need to strengthen us in our time of weakness. - Hebrews 4:14-16 (TPT)
Try to list one trait about yourself that you don’t like. In fact, this is probably the thing that you choose not to mention even in the closest of family relationships and friendships with others. Why don’t you mention it? Because then you would have to face the thing that makes you seem less likable or lovable. If you brought it up with others, you may need to talk about it, you may need to wrestle with it, and ultimately, you may need to choose whether to bury it again, or change. Guess what though? God already knows about it - intimately! He knows every time you fall short whether intentionally or unintentionally. Now hold onto this thought – He knows your dirty secret, he knows the last time you thought or spoke it, he knows if you are struggling right now and he remains in love with you. The all powerful God is your steadfast friend. He knows your secrets and will not run away, unfriend you, or ignore you. In our friendship with God we can come to him completely naked and yet unafraid. He doesn’t change; His love doesn’t change. God already knows our deepest secrets and the worst of our flaws, yet He wants us to trust Him enough to confess it and lay it at His feet.

Suggested Guided Prayer Focus:
- Jesus, thank you for being a friend to me. Today, I rest in Your love and friendship.
Action Step:
- Sit with your Heavenly Father and Friend just listening for 5-7 min. He will shower love and affection over you, because he is that kind of Friend. He will hold you in the midst of knowing the worst thing about you and love you anyway. And He will whisper words of promise to you, to walk with you, strengthen you, and help you live in the light with Him. He is that kind of friend!
