Day 17 God is Three in One (the Trinity)
Day 17: God is Three in One (The Trinity)
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness” - Genesis 1:26a
Often times, we refer back to this verse as the Imago Dei – “the image of God.” We were made in the image of God. This also points out the plurality of God as God said, “let us.” In the beginning, we were made in the image of God, who is: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is a perfect community of One. In essence, God is a relationship. He is community. With this in mind, read Matthew 22:36-40 that says, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”
We were made to love God, to love others, and to love ourselves. As we just heard a sermon on relationships, have you taken any next steps towards:

We were made to love God, to love others, and to love ourselves. As we just heard a sermon on relationships, have you taken any next steps towards:
- Nurturing my important relationships?
- Restoring my broken relationships?
- Severing any harmful relationships?
- Initiating some meaningful relationships?
Suggested Guided Prayer Focuses:
- Read Genesis 1 with community in mind. Ask God to speak to you through scripture. What does God reveal to you in these passages?
- Thank you, Lord, that You define community. Thank You that You are Holy, Holy, Holy. You are set apart, but You make a way for relationship with you. Thank You, Jesus, for who You are and for making a way for me. You ask that I not only love You, but to love others as myself. Holy Spirit, empower me to love like You do. Help me to nurture, restore, sever if needed, and initiate those relationships that you want me to have this year.
Action Steps:
- What is God saying to you, write down any answers in your journal that the Lord is revealing to you in regards to your relationships.
- Share those answers to someone you trust that can keep you accountable moving forward. Be in community and share what God is saying to you.
- If you are not in a Life Group, pray and consider that you get connected to one in the upcoming semester starting on January 27.
