Day 1: The Priestly Blessing
The Presence of God Prayer Series: The Priestly Blessing
Numbers 6:22-27
The Priestly Blessing
The Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:
“‘“The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’
“So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.”
In Numbers 6--when Moses encounters the Presence of the Lord, the Lord speaks to Him about what it means to be consecrated (or in other words, set apart) as priests before Him. This chapter ends with "The Priestly Blessing" that perhaps you've heard quoted before.
So, you might be thinking, "How does Numbers 6 apply to me? I don't consider myself a minister or priest". However this thinking is wrong. Why? This passage applies to you because you too are a "royal priesthood, a holy nation" as described in 1 Peter 2:9 (read the whole chapter, it's good!). All of this became who we are when we accepted Jesus' free gift of salvation and payment for our sins. We have a new identity in Him and this is who we TRULY are.
Friends, we have access to what it says in Number 6. We can receive His nearness, grace, peace, and care. And as priests unto God we can approach Him in prayer for yourself AND others. Even during this time of social isolation and uncertainty, remember HE IS WITH YOU and His Promises never fail.
