Psalm 37
Psalm 37 is another great passage that describes what we can do in spite of
being in troubling circumstances.
Do not fret. Trust in the Lord and do good. Take delight in the Lord. Commit your way
to the Lord. Trust in Him. Be still before the Lord. Wait patiently for Him. Refrain from
anger and turn from wrath. Turn from evil and do good. Hope in the Lord and keep his
way.
There are so many takeaways and attitudes in which the Lord may be directing you to
take. The portion of Scripture that stands out to me is from Psalm 37: 23-24 that says,
“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in Him; though he may stumble,
he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with His hand” (NIV). I picture the time when I
have helped my children walk. You hold out your hands in case they may fall hard, but
you still keep a slight distance so they feel like they have the confidence to do it on their
own. They would not attempt to walk, however, if the presence of their parents were not
there.
I think spiritually it’s hard to take next steps when we feel like God is not there. This is
where trust is developed and we become more confident in the character of God.
Though we may stumble, we will not fall, because the Lord upholds us with His hand.
But looking deeper into this passage, it’s not just about developing trust, but to delight in
the Lord. That’s how our steps are made firm.
Do you feel unsure about your next steps? Afraid of falling? Let us rediscover our joy
in the Lord. How do you take delight in Him? How do you do that in the midst of
troubling circumstances? It may take some effort, but you are not alone. Ask the Holy
Spirit to guide you in being able to take delight in who God is.
Prayer and Action Steps:
1. Read through Psalm 37 and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you. Listen to His
voice as you read. What is God saying to you?
2. Pray: Holy Spirit, reveal to me how I can take delight in the Lord today. Help me
to not fret, to build my trust in You, and to commit everything I am to You. Lord, even if I
stumble in life, I know You will not let me fall. I want to enjoy You and know Your joy in
my life. Thank You for Your goodness and covering. Thank You for Your faithfulness! In
Jesus’ name, Amen.
3. Put into action what the Holy Spirit reveals to you. What new practice of delight
can you make part of your daily habits? Share your discovery with someone who is
attempting to do the same thing.

The new delight that I can take in the Lord today is not to be so hard on myself when I fail, because He still loves me, forgives me and will hold me up, Psalm 37:24!
