Day 13 & 14

Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. Genesis 2:1-3

Sabbath is a commandment (Exodus 20:8) and a gift from the Lord to rest from life’s labors. God took time off to rest from His work of creating the world. He made this day to be  “holy” or “set apart.” If you lead a busy life and or have a family it can be hard to do this and understandably so. However, God invites us to trust Him with our resources such as time, treasures, and talents when we honor the Sabbath.

  1. Take some time this weekend (this could be from five mins to a full day) to “break” from your normal work and routine to intentionally celebrate, rest, breathe, recreate, play, etc. Set time aside to connect with your Heavenly Father. You can do this on your own, with your kids, your friends, and or your spouse.
  2. Sometimes it's hard to know how to spend your Sabbath. If you have a difficult time identifying what to do or even how to rest, simply ask how He’s inviting you to “Sabbath” with Him.
  3. Guided Prayer for Sabbath: Lord, I thank you for giving me the space to break from my labors to enjoy you and my life. Father, I welcome you to lead this day and show me how I can honor this commandment. Thank you that all good things come from you. May you be blessed today through my rest. In Jesus name, amen. Remember-- there is NO condemnation in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). Do your best and enjoy Him today!
